At Surf School Barbados, Jay, is very “hands on” with all surf lessons and makes sure that we are there for our new surfers every step of the way.
We only work in small groups to guarantee quality contact time and a quality wave count for each surfer. We always offer constructive feedback and encouragement after every wave.
WAVE RIDING is the FUN part and this is our focus in every surf lesson. Surf School Barbados (Jay) only chooses suitable beaches for surf lessons ability and weather conditions depending.
We mostly use Freights Bay, one of the best places in the world to start surfing.
Morning session 09:00-11:15
Afternoon session 14:00-16:15
Lessons run twice-daily 7 days a week. We are flexible and try accommodate special requirements where possible upon request.
(We count the fun factor not the clock!)
She moved to England at 18 to attend university where she found her love of brands and marketing. After 10 years overseas, working hard in London, (a brief stint at home to warm up inbetween) she decided it was time to venture home with Jay to warmer, more surf orientated climes.
Jay and Alexis, together, started Ride The Tide Surf School upon their return to Barbados in 2012, a family run business, Ride The Tide is committed to showing people of all ages and abilities a truly enjoyable time riding the tide in Barbados.
Jay, surf instructor at Ride The Tide Surf School Barbados, showed promise as a sportsman from an early age playing ice hockey, football; he also took part in competitive gymnastics. Not that he was much good at any of them he turned his energy to the water where his passion was.
Enthusiastic about wakeboarding and waterskiing it became apparent that his true skill was surfing, specifically longboarding. Somehow longboarding and Jay seemed to be designed for each other.
Jay has won many longboard events and despite placing 2nd in the National Championships longboard division 2008 claimed “Surfer Of The Year, longboard division, 2008.”
Jay found longboarding while it had turned away from mainstream sports and the public eye. Although, Jay knows he was not solely responsible for making it cool again he would like to think that he helped a little bit.
Jay and Alexis started Ride The tide Surf School when they returned to Barbados. Jay is always the first to say he is so lucky to have a wife that has supported his passion and lifestyle and helped turn them into his chosen career.
Surf Tours Barbados, get away from crowded line-up’s on a surf tour! Maximise your wave count, and enjoy the beautiful waves Barbados has on offer.
Jay is an experienced surf guide. He is full of local knowledge and will take you to the best breaks finding conditions required to produce the best waves to suit your ability and demands. You can challenge yourself to hit the next level or keep it casual and cruise enjoying the turquoise water and passing sea turtles. Island surf tours are tailored to meet your demands.
A guided island surf tour will visit some of the places you have heard about and, swell permitting, some that you haven’t heard about but sshhh! They will only stay sercret spots if you keep them secret.
