Yesterday I took Michael for a surf. His request was simple, “I can surf a little bit, so, give me a longboard and show me some fun waves.”

Yesterday the swell dropped a little bit but there was still plenty to lay down some fun ones.

Michael mentioned that he gets in the water maybe  twice a year and was just hoping to catch one wave. I have never let anyone catch only one wave and I wasn’t about to start. I figured the best plan is to get a super smooth session in at Freights Bay dodging the wind. We surfed until the low tide sucked it flat. It was still early so we had a glance at South Point and it was not saying so much. I made a call to get to Brandons and enjoy some challenging waves there. With Michael’s wave count and confidence through the roof I knew he could handle the bigger more powerful peak. When we got there it didn’t disappoint. The water was super clear and super blue. There were some set waves rolling through and we had to hit it. The conditions were just about large enough to not take the camera in with us so you have to just believe me when I say that Michael was on form and scored plenty sweet rides!

Just two days ago Jamal and Chantal came for a surf lesson with me. It was just the pair of them together and so they enjoyed a private surf lesson in a near empty line up.

Freights Bay put on a show for us and gave a real pulse in the late afternoon offering some waves with more than average size and good power. Jamal and Chantal didn’t waste any time getting their groove on and rode some lovely waves all afternoon.

So, This is Pippa, who we know already, and Gareth who is a new recruit. I mean new surfer.

Gareth is a top man and not just because he scored me some Rugby tickets to Twickenham while I was in the UK because of the way he met me and the whole crew. We organised a catamaran cruise for Pippa and before we knew it we had the entire Atlantic Shores posse and more. Gareth and his wife, Sally, were enjoying their Honeymoon and must have thought they were in for a casual day sailing and snorkeling. Well, it was raining and our main man Gabby quickly negotiated turning the sailing into a booze cruise. 0930 and rum one down the hatch…lets boogie!

Gareth and Sally I am so sorry. Gabby quickly got a rum punch in Sally’s hand and then Gareth and Sally were coming back to our house to have a drink by the pool. The rest is history right.

Anyway, Pippa got Gareth keen on a surf so we hit the water later in the week.

After a camera malfunction…Pippa I feel was responsible.

-Jokes, it was entirely my fault.

Can you believe it Gareth and Pippa were also caught busting out handstands.

Lina from Sweden scored a surf lesson all to herself earlier this week. We followed the tide time and landed a private surf lesson in an empty to near empty Freights Bay.

Lina caught so many waves and took advantage of the morning pulse and rode some powerful, better than average waves with style.

Of course we caught the action on video. So, please judge for yourself and tell me how well did Lina do on her first outing with us?

I don’t think we missed a wave?

All out good job Lina! I had a great time in the water stealing a few with you.

As the title says Phil the thrill did get a session on his own and as always Phil had the wave magnet in his pocket bringing with him swell from out of nowhere and all set waves straight in his lap.

I just loved the sessions that Phil managed to score and each outing his waves improved. His repitoire of moves and confidence grew with every wave. Phil was a very cool guy to hang out with in the water and made each surf visit an absolute pleasure.

I know where we started at the beginning of your vacation with your surfing and can see with the video where you progressed to. You pulled Rob along, got the Colonel going and made all the beginners in the line up raise their game a little.

Right, enough from me. Don’t know if you could tell but I was really really impressed with the surfing.

I think the portrait above says it all about the surf session and the waves that they caught but I was there and I know exactly how hard the pair of them worked and rides they got were well deserved.

This time we managed to catch some of Rob and not just still shots of him looking out to sea. I can’t help but noticed that this surf session we get the camera working and the only thing different is we are missing Pippa???

So, sometimes its flat or you just can’t surf anymore. Sometimes you just feel for a bit a swim… from Freights to Miami Beach.

Yes, I was caught cheating and using flippers but its a pretty good look at the sea bottom of Freights. Even when the water iscloudy its still clear.

So, it is a pretty looking afternoon with perfect waves at Freights Bay.

Maybe the waves are too big?

Too big for beginners for sure but since I have Rob and Pippa who had been with me before and owned the ocean I feel that they are more than able of handling themselves and catching some really good clips of themselves.

Close to the end of our session I was packing down the camera and noticed that we have a lot of stills???

I better check the video. Er, we have no videos???

Between ourselves we managed to change the settings and take some stills and some 10 frames a second stuff and only managed to catch this one wave of Rob.

Look at Rob on this cool little runner. Watch him correct his technique during the POP to his feet. The look of self disapproval in his eyes. Fortunately he used an extra chicken wing stroke to paddling himself into this wave…HARD! This gave him extra room to rescue that loose knee outside his elbows. I especially love the little wave Rob gives the… the crowd? A mate on the inside?

Huh?

All jokes Rob! It was a great wave. I am just giving you a hard time becasue I messed up the filming.
